Mrs. Lekha Nair, CEO of Seychelles Pension Fund accompanied the President of Seychelles, Mr. Danny Faure to the African Sovereign Wealth and Pension Fund Leaders’ summit in Cape Town on 3rd September 2019.
The event was organized by Africa Investor (AI) and BATSETA, the Council of Retirement Funds for South Africa. The seminar is a high level platform for Sovereign Wealth and Pension Fund leaders to network and share best practices of key issues related to improving the investment environment.
The summit began with a keynote address by President Faure, and touched on topics such as asset refinancing, infrastructure investment, co-investing, de-risking of infrastructure and developmental investing.
At the summit the CEO was asked to brief the forum on how Seychelles managed 7% of its investment in infrastructure development of the country. She explained that a big chunk of it was through providing commercial spaces for Government and the private sector, secondly by building necessary infrastructure for SME’s making available commercial spaces and providing government support through a loan on commercial terms for government to build the necessary infrastructure required namely in the housing sector.
Mrs. Nair reported that the forum was an eye opener as it has brought together pension fund leaders from Africa to learn that they can pool their resources to avail of opportunities to pitch their infrastructure development together, and help each other in addressing their individual countries’ infrastructure needs.
