Young Entrepreneurs and post-secondary students learn more about the Seychelles Pension Fund
The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) in collaboration with the Seychelles Fund (SPF) hosted a special half day workshop today (22.03.2017) targeting young entrepreneurs and post-secondary students who aspire to start their own business in an effort to create more awareness about SPF. The workshop was held at the SNYC Conference Room, Orion Mall.
Firstly the participants were familiarised with the history and transition from the National Provident Fund; to the Seychelles Pension fund in 2006 to the present. They youths were also acquainted to the management structure of SPF and its sources of income. Most importantly, the participants learnt about personal benefits that they and their family can obtain from the fund during retirement, in case of death or permanent incapacitation.
According to Mrs. Leka Nair, CEO of SPF, following a symposium with the public in January of this year, it was voiced out that not enough information was reaching the population about the SPF. As a result, SPF has taken a proactive approach and is going to districts to get the views of the people especially after 10 years of its establishment. Mrs. Nair also emphasised that SPF is focused on preparedness and sustainability for the future, at the same having the pensioners and those working today at heart.
There was also representatives from Airtel who explained the newly introduced e-contribution platform launched through the Airtel money programme which allows members, most specifically the self-employed to pay their contributions through their telephone at the comfort of their own workplace.
Two participants, Mr. Riley Barbe and Miss Jonahnaciela Pierre described the workshop as interesting and a real eye opener for them as they were unfamiliar with the investment portfolio of SPF and all the benefits that the fund provides to the people of Seychelles.
